The article analyses the oral history of the memories of Jan Szymczyk, a former Wehrmacht soldier and the Second Polish Corps. I decided to choose Szymczyk’s testimony because of his young age (18), when he became a soldier of the 2nd Polish Corps. I wanted to investigate what kind of events, facts and characters were remembered by a young soldier (actually a teenager) who served in the Second Polish Corps already in the post-war period, and who is still rather little known in Polish historiography. This text presents fragments of his memoirs concerning his service in the Polish Armed Forces in the West in 1945-1947 . The memoirs were accompanied by my own commentary.
